Enhancements to the Fighter:

  • Skills: Add Knowledge(Monsters) as a class skill for Fighters.
  • Martial Training(Ex): Fighters spend many hours fighting with and without weapons. To reflect this fighters gain the Improved Unarmed Strike feat as a bonus feat at 2nd level. He need not select it.
  • Bravery(Ex): Starting at 2nd level, a fighter gains a +1 bonus on Will saves against fear. This bonus increases by +1 for every four levels beyond 2nd, to a maximum of +5 at 18th level.
  • Armor Training(Ex): Starting at 3rd level, a fighter gains added protection from the armor he is wearing. Whenever he is wearing armor, he gains an additional +1 armor bonus to his armor class, reduces the armor check penalty by 1 (to a minimum of 0), and increases the maximum Dexterity bonus allowed by his armor by 1. Every four levels thereafter (7th, 11th, and 15th), a fighter gains even more protection, increasing these bonuses by +1 each time, for a total of +4 to armor class at 15th level, with a -4 reduction to the armor check penalty and a +4 increase to the maximum Dexterity bonus allowed. For warforged characters with body armor feats these bonuses apply normally.
  • Weapon Training (Ex): Starting at 5th level, a fighter can select one group of weapons, as noted below. Whenever he attacks with a weapon from this group, he gains a +1 bonus on attack and damage rolls. Every 4 levels thereafter (9th, 13th, and 17th), a fighter becomes further trained in one group of weapons. You can select the same group of weapons multiple times. The bonuses granted from this ability stack.
    • Weapon groups are defined as follows:
    • Axes: battleaxe, dwarven waraxe, dwarven urgrosh, greataxe, handaxe, longaxe, orc double axe, and throwing axe.
    • Blades, Heavy: bastard sword, broad sword, falchion, greatsword, longsword, scythe, and two-bladed sword.

Any attacks made with that weapon automatically confirm all critical threats and have their damage multiplier increased by 1 (a ×2 becomes a ×3, for example). In addition, he cannot be disarmed while wielding a weapon of this type.
